It’s condos vs culture as the battle to #SavetheRio continues. The Rio theatre has been around since the late 30’s. It is deeply loved by thousands who rely on it for movies, live music, comedy show, burlesque and much more.
Last night Rio operator Corinne Lea, late in a massive 30 hour telethon, announced to much joy that the theatre had been given an extra 2 weeks to come up with money needed for a down payment on the property.
Many fund raising shows have been presented including two sold out shows featuring Kevin Smith who despite recently suffering a massive “widow maker” heart attack, made the trip to Vancouver to help save the theatre he loves in the city he loves.
Corrine reminds everyone of the 22,000 people who signed the #SavetheRio petition, if they donated $100 each, problem solved.

Got to see one of my heroes over the long weekend. My amazing wife @p_ixel got us tickets to the sold out show through her work. Her office designed the image projected on the curtains and donated some rad posters for the #savetherio campaign. @thatkevinsmith you are a true legend!loved the script read. So, so good. Vancouver ❤'s you!
