In May of 1974, Bruce Springsteen was still one of hundreds of young rock musicians looking to make it big. He had a record contract but the albums were uneven, they didn’t translate to the sensational live performances he was churning out to his small but loyal following.
But, on May 9, 1974, influential rock music critic Jon Landau saw Springsteen perform at the Harvard Square Theatre in Cambridge and was captivated. Of Springsteen’s concert he wrote: “On a night when I needed to feel young, he made me feel like I was hearing music for the very first time…”
With the help of Landau, Springsteen released ‘Born to Run’ in 1975 and it was the first of his records to go platinum.
