In the late 70s, Dire Straits emerged with a sound reflective of a roots revivalism. Influenced by the likes of J.J. Cale with blues and country inflections with a hint of progressive rock as well.
Led by vocalist / guitarist Mark Knopfler, Dire Straits became more refined and matured in their music. Their sixth album, the 1985 ‘Brothers in Arms’ became an international success.
While Knopfler first rose to fame through his work with Dire Straits, he also accumulated successful side projects through his own solo work and as a producer, sideman, songwriter, and film composer.
