ABOUT THE DOME

After working on visuals for the Sphere in Las Vegas, Vancouver-based company “Volumetric Camera Systems” (VCS) is bringing world-class immersive experiences home. They’ve transformed the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre’s planetarium into The Dome – a cutting-edge venue featuring eight new Christie 4K cinema projectors that deliver seamless panoramic 360° visuals in ultra-crisp 10K resolution, along with a new 20,000-watt Dolby Atmos surround sound, and full-dome laser capabilities, The Dome offers an unprecedented sensory experience.

The 42-minute journey features Pink Floyd’s complete album with stunning visuals created in collaboration with Aubrey Powell, the band’s longtime creative director. Each of the 10 tracks has its own visual theme, taking audiences on what Powell calls a “truly immersive” journey that transcends traditional entertainment.

The Dome’s lineup features multiple world-class shows running daily, including Tom Hanks’ Passport to the Universe – an exhilarating journey from Saturn’s rings to the edge of the observable universe – Pedro Pascal’s Encounters in the Milky Way, which uses revolutionary data from ESA’s Gaia mission to explore our galaxy’s dynamic past and future, and A.R. Rahman’s Le Musk, the groundbreaking immersive musical sensation from the Oscar-winning composer.

Full production with lasers begins August 9th. August 1st – 7th are preview shows. Tickets and information can be found at www.domevancouver.com.
