Full on. Rock n’ Roll. Rhythm & Blues swagger.
The Rolling Stones at the heigt of their dominance, Exile on Main St. was and simply is – a masterpiece.
But it didn’t start out that way. Recorded in the French Rivera in 1971, the Stones were purposely extricating themselves from England and the taxes they owed. Drugs were running rampant, attentions were diverted, but somehow through the sprawling assembly of people, emotions, and music – Exile on Main St. was released on May 12th, 1972.
Initially perceived as a flop, Exile became known for its aesthetic and it’s fusion of rock, rhythm & blues, and roots, eventually earning the praise and mythical status is garners today.
